Joint partnership among stakeholders in the agricultural sector is a significant drive towards realising high output value, it has been learnt.
This partnership should include governments, companies, multilateral and civil society organizations, farmers, consumers as well as entrepreneurs.
Chairperson of Tanzania Association of Women Leaders in Agriculture and Environment (TAWLAE) Dr. Sophia Mlote told a three-day national conference in Kibaha on Innovative Agriculture for Food Security in Tanzania, jointly organised by TAWLAE and the Agricultural Non State Actors Forum (ANSAF).
The conference brought together over 120 participants representing various stakeholders, including experts, farmers, and the media personnel in both the mainland and the Isle.
The conferences aimed at sharing research findings, good practices and innovations and agree on strategies to accelerate progress of innovative agriculture towards a stable food and nutrition security in Tanzania.
Dr. Mlote said stakeholders need to ensure investment, innovation, policies and other step up tools are fully utilised. “This conference is crucial as the country position itself to making agriculture an enterprising sector for women and youth,” Dr. Mlote remarked.
The conference themed “Innovative agriculture for food security in Tanzania” also aims to find local solutions in order to address food insecurity concerns.
The Permanent Secretary in Ministry of Livestock and Fisheries, Dr. Yohana Budeba, commended ANSAF, a network representing both private and civil society organizations.
Dr. Budeba said the conference would help to address and improve the value of the farm output.
He acknowledged that innovative agriculture stood as a long term approach towards a sustainable farming with high yield.
Meanwhile the Executive Secretary of ANSAF, Audax Rukonge said women and youth are crucial as they play a key role in the agricultural sector , calling for stakeholders to work together to get the needed support.
