Chinese telecom firm donates equipment worth 12m/- to school

China International Telecommunication Construction Corporation (CITCC), chairman Niu Haiming said on Thursday that for a country to develop technologically it was important to ensure that the education sector continued growing.
He was speaking at Msasani B Primary School in Dar es Salaam just a few minutes after donating school equipment worth 6,000 USD (more than 12m/-) to pupils at the school.
CITCC Chief Marketing Officer Helen Gao said the company donated 200 pairs of shoes, 120 pairs of socks, 100 counter books, and another 100 sets of coloured pencils among others.
Speaking at the event, Mr Haiming said that the donation is a symbol of cooperation between his country and Tanzania. “We will continue to strengthen our ties in ensuring that technology is growing as it is equally important in the growth of economy,” he said.
According to him, through CSR, his company has been supporting various projects but this time around it realized that education was a priority for the future thus embarking on supporting various education programmes.
“We want to ensure that this sector does well because without education it is difficult to improve other sectors including technology,’’ he noted. Msasani B Primary School Head Teacher, Mr Egidius Mujunangoma said his school which accommodates782 students was facing several problems including shortage of text books, adding that majority of his pupils were coming from poor families which could not be able to provide for all necessary requirements.
“This donation is very important because majority of pupils here come to school without shoes because their parents cannot afford the cost of shoes,’’ he said, insisting that the donation was timely.
CITCC provides several services, among them telecommunication operators, government organizations, manufacturers of a wide range of equipment as well as various other enterprises.
Other services provided by the firm include telecommunication network construction, business process outsourcing, information and communication technology (ICT) system integration, telecommunication operation management consultation and training.
