The National Environment Management Council (NEMC) is working to incorporate environment and production education in the formal system of education in schools for sustainable development.
Addressing reporters in Dar es Salaam yesterday NEMC Principal
Environment Management Officer Carlos Mbuta said education has a
fundamental role to play in solving Tanzania’s environmental problems.
Teaching environmental education from primary schools, secondary to
college, at large point will help the student grow with the education
thus being aware of the importance of conserving environment.
According to him, environment degradation has been contributed by
lack of education and what is needed is make someone grow with such
knowledge from childhood level.
He said this will help the students take an active part in
decisions and actions that will contribute to successful environmental
management when they grow.
“This will help the pupils gain knowledge on the importance of
conserving environment and proper use of land much earlier in life,” she
said.
“We want, in the next coming years, Tanzanians to be fully aware
of the importance of conserving environment without any force,” he said.
Mbuta emphasized that if the education to be included in the
education curriculum, children will be made aware of the importance of
proper utilization of natural resources for the benefit of present and
future generations.
For his part, Assistant Director Urban Planning in the Ministry of
Lands, Housing and Human Settlements Development George Pangawe urged
citizens to adhere to all legal procedures whenever they want to develop
any piece of land.
He added that the Government, through its Ministry oversees the
proper use of land development and urging the public to support
government efforts to manage the Rules and Regulations governing the
land sector.
